NET CONTROL SCRIPTS

INITIAL "LONG-TONE ZERO" NET ACTIVATION

(Give callsign, then DTMF tones:  zero, zero, long zero (4 seconds))

"This is (callsign), Net Control for South-Central Wisconsin SKYWARN.  We are activating a net at this time at the request of the National Weather Service (list watches/warnings with expiration times).

This is a directed net.  All traffic must go through net control.  Stations wishing to check in as spotters may do so by giving their callsign followed by the word "CHECK-IN." If you have severe weather to report to the net, please give your callsign and a one- or two-word summary of what you are about to report, then wait to be acknowledged.  When I ask you to go ahead, please give your report in the T-L-C format, meaning TIME, LOCATION, and CONDITIONTIME is the time of your observation, LOCATION is your county and the distance and direction from the nearest city, and CONDITION is what you observed.  If you are relaying for another station, please also give the callsign of the originating station.

DURING ACTIVE NETS, ROTATE THROUGH THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTS AT 5 MINUTE INTERVALS TO KEEP THE REPEATER CLEAR OF NON-WEATHER TRAFFIC.

ACTIVE NET
(Version 1)

"At (time), this is (callsign), Net Control for South-Central Wisconsin SKYWARN.  We
have a net in progress due to (list watches/warnings with expiration times).

Here are the criteria to report, beginning with the most significant:

If you have any severe weather to report, please call (callsign), SKYWARN Net Control."
 

ACTIVE NET
(Version 2)

"At (time), this is (callsign), Net Control for South-Central Wisconsin SKYWARN.  We have a net in progress due to (list watches/warnings with expiration times).

(Or if you have an NWS radar summary, read it.)

If you have severe weather to report to the net, please give your callsign and a one- or two-word summary of what you are about to report, then wait to be acknowledged.  When I ask you to go ahead, please give your report in the T-L-C format, meaning TIME, LOCATION, and CONDITION. TIME is the time of your observation, LOCATION is your county and the distance and direction from the nearest city, and CONDITION is what you observed.  Make sure you give your report slowly at dictation speed.  If you are relaying for another station, please also give the callsign of the originating station.

When making reports of estimated wind speeds, please use the following observations based on the Beaufort wind scale:

When making your report, please say whether your wind speed is measured or estimated.  If estimated, give the basis for your estimation.  This is (callsign), SKYWARN Net Control."


(WHEN THE NET IS IN STANDBY MODE, USE THIS SCRIPT ABOUT EVERY 10 OR 15 MINUTES)

"STANDBY" MODE

"At (time), this is (callsign), Net Control for South-Central Wisconsin SKYWARN.  The SKYWARN Net is currently in standby mode.  There are no warnings (or watches) currently in effect for our area. (Mention any out-of-area warnings if necessary.)

(Or if you have an NWS radar summary, read it.)

I will monitor for any reports of severe weather or rainfall totals to pass to the National Weather Service.  Otherwise, the repeater will remain open for routine traffic.  Please keep your calls brief in case we need to pass traffic or bring the net to full activation.   This is (callsign), SKYWARN Net Control, in standby."
