Fall Youth Events

4H  Shooting Sports Program:  The Chapter is helping to co-sponsor a Shotgun Shooting Sports program together with the County 4H program and the Argyle Rod & Gun Club.  5 Thursday night programs, are being presented out at the Argyle Rod and Gun Club starting on August 7 at 7:00 PM, and running through the first Thursday in September.  This will include a review of hunter safety, shooting skills, dog handling, game cleaning & preparation, and hunting theory.  Each session will include hands on trap shooting.  The final session will include Sporting Clays.  The program will be largely repeated during the morning of the Chapter Sponsored Youth Hunt planned for October 12th.  Graduates of the 4H program can hunt in the morning.  Call Jeff Kopp at 934-2061 for more information on the 4 H program.

Combined Boy Scout & Girl Scout Fall Camporee:  The Chapter helps sponsor a huge Boy/Girl Scout Camporee planned out at the Dave & Kris Wisnefske Farm planned for the weekend of October 4-6.  The daylong program on Saturday consists of dozens of small sessions on some aspect of outdoor skills, hunting, fishing, conservation, and the environment.  We have stocked 1300 trout and are expecting around 300 kids and probably about 100 adults for the event.  We need help up at the Rod & Gun Club for trap shooting and hunter safety.  We could also use some help down at the archery range & in particular down at the trout pond where it would be great to have one adult to help out each kid in the groups or troops coming through.  We can also use help with:  Out Door Cooking, Flint knapping, Black Powder, Turkey Calling, Duck Calling, Trapping, DNR, Taxidermy, Orienteering, Water Quality, Indian Folklore, Fly Tying, & other environmental topics as well as any other topic you can come up with that would be great for the kids.  For more info call Dave Wisnefske at 325-4606.

5th Annual Pheasant Youth Hunt:  The Chapter, The Argyle Rod & Gun Club, DNR, 4H & other conservation organizations will again sponsor a “Learn to Hunt” Youth hunt at the Argyle Rod & Gun Club & adjacent pheasant habitat on October 12th.  A classroom program is planned for the morning including hunter’s safety review, trap shooting, hunting theory, dog handling, game preparation & handling.  In the afternoon a one on one mentored hunt with dogs is planned.  Interested youth must have completed or are completing Hunters Safety this fall to be eligible.  Mentors with dogs & interested youth should sign up on the back of the ticket application & send in ASAP.  For web info:  http://savannasprings.com/youthhunt.htm   E-mail savanasp@tds.net or call Dave Wisnefske at 325-4606 or Bob Wesenberg at 325-4494
