Argyle Rod & Gun Club
The Argyle Rod & Gun Club is located 2 miles east of Argyle WI. on Hwy 81.  Besides a full schedule of Trap Shooting and Sporting Clays the Club is very active in the Wisconsin Hunter Safety Program and other youth events.
Here a Club Hunter Safety Instructor teaches a boy scout how to sight in during a Boy Scout Camporee attended by over 300 youth this spring.
We also helped organize and hosted  a "Learn to Hunt" Youth Pheasant hunt and seminar out at the Argyle Rod & Gun Club on October 10th.  The  Green County Conservation League , Argyle Rod & Gun Club,   Sugar River Valley Pheasants Forever  and the Wisconsin DNR   cosponsored the event.  The event included:
                        1.  Hunt for youth who have taken hunters safety and are between 12 &17
                        2.  No license or stamp needed
                        3.  Waving of normal season, hence the date 1 week before usual opening.
                        4.  60 additional birds were added to the area
                        5.  Mentored hunt with one adult with each youth while hunting
                        6   Four hour seminar included:
1 hour of review of hunter safety
                                    1 hour of trapshooting
1 hour of pheasant hunting strategy
                                    1 hour of dog training

Most of the 1998 "Learn to Hunt" Crew
A total of 24 youth and 26 mentors attended the event
Hunter Safety & Trap Shooting proceeded the hunt.
Several young ladies showed they could shoot as well or better than the boys
One of the high points of the seminars was watching Deb Joseph of
Lime Creek Labrador Retrievers demonstrating dog handling and training
with her master field trial champion Labrador Retriever, Katy
It only took Katy about 5 minutes to find, flush & retrieve these two birds.
Nice shooting boys.
Walking back to the car Scott's Shorthair found this native hiding along a foodplot.
All told the young hunters went 14 for 24.
A hunt we'll all remember.

25 Mentors and 22 youth participated, here are just a few of the happy participants
A few of the birds that went home with the happy boys and girls
Larry Ziltner offered to mount the best looking bird free as a momento of the hunt
Judging all the birds was difficult.  Here the boys watch the judging.
This bird was a looser but you'll never convince father or son of that.
2000 Hunt
The 2000 Learn to Hunt youth Hunt was held on October 2
The event was attended by 33 registered youth and a few more who arrived late
Brian is stocking one of the birds we received from both the Rod and Gun Club and the DNR
A few last minute instructions and  then we're off.
Sounds like a plan.
Things worked out quite well for this group of lucky hunters
Including this young lady who bagged her limit of 2 birds.  None of the guys got 2.
Congratulations!!!
Our largest fundraiser is our yearly banquet held at Lelle's in Woodford the 4th. Tuesday of January.  These banquets have helped us purchase 80 acres of land out at the clubhouse which now is where sporting clays are shot.  Extensive wildlife habitat work has also been done including:  Food plots, Prairie Grasses and thousands of trees.
