Wild Hog in the Woods Celebrates 30 Years
1978 – 2008
Mark your calendars! Several events are planned to celebrate the Hog’s 30th Birthday, July through November. Dates for these events are listed on the reverse side, be sure to mark these on your calendar. From music jams, to potlucks, to workshops, to concerts, to festivals, to barn dances, we have them all this year.
30 Years Ago! Back in the autumn of 1978, several folk musicians faced a shortage of venues where they could play their music. They came together and developed a plan to open a coffeehouse where local musicians could play. November 30th that year marked the beginning of a Madison music institution that is, 30 years later, still in operation. Organized as a cooperative, the smoke free environment of the coffeehouse was unique in that it provided a stage for musicians, held monthly barn dances and sponsored special events and workshops. Who would have predicted the coffeehouse would still be around 30 years later?
Not just one party! The Wild Hog is still going strong, so Phillip has decided to throw a really big party. In fact, it is soooo big that it will take several days to celebrate. “This will give every hog, including piglets that have moved elsewhere, the opportunity to come back home and party with me”, said Phillip the Pig in a recent interview. "There will be workshops, concerts, barn dances and more", he continued.
Volunteers Needed! The Hog has always been staffed by volunteers. This year is no different. Phillip needs your help to celebrate his 30th Birthday. All sorts of jobs are available for the events listed on the back of this page. The list is ling and includes event planning, admissions, sound mixing, musicians, workshop leaders, barn dance callers and musicians, and much more.

Friday, Saturday 2008 Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival, details are still unfolding so check the web page in July for details.
August 18th
Monday, 5-8:30pm Potluck and Music Jam at the Olin Park Barn with Moldy Jam. Remembering Hogs that have passed on with this special evening in the park where we have held so many dances.
September 19th
Friday, 8:30pm Special Concert at the Coffeehouse recognizing the Willy Street Fair
September 20-21st
Saturday, Sunday Wild Hog Booth at the Willy Street Fair
September 26th
Friday, 7-9:45pm Reunion Barn Dance at the Olin Park Barn
