AG-550/560 DISASSEMBLY NOTE: Because there is no access to bottom of VCR, it's impossible to service (ie retime gears) without complete disassembly. Here's how: Remove rear cover. Set unit face down. With long philips driver, remove four screws holding VCR mechanism and boards to front panel. The next step requires that the wire bundles under the deck be released... this will allow the deck to be slid out. Leave unit upright and VCR deck on it's side as it is slid out, and the face of the deck is exposed. It's a bit awkward working on the deck this way, but more stable on the bench. --or-- Set TV on left side and slide assy part of the way out and rest tail end on cardboard box or similar 6" to 8" high. Use care at all times to support the front of the assy so as not to break control shafts (hits CRT bell). Remove 5 (different types) screws holding deck to bottom plastic pan. To access the two deck front screws, remove the front (clock) board (four screws), but leave connectors attached. Remove two screws (one on the right is under front board, which is why it has to be removed) holding front of deck to pan. Wire bundle retainer wire should be unwrapped and bundle loosened (just behind deck) to facilitate removal of plugs on top side of deck: one from cassette slide switch (and the ground wire near it), two from head amp board and one under it, one on the CTL head, one near mode switch, and lastly, one on bottom of deck. See GCHASSIS file for info on how to repair the mechanical deck.
