Amidst the Wisconsin
wildlife displayed around the bar is what is claimed to be the world's
largest record musky. This claim is in dispute, however.
After you recover from debating the finer points of fish-judging, walk
around and study some of the humorous animal displays which includes a
poker game, a boxing match and a hoedown. |

See how Al Capone
spent his summer vacation. Tours are given of the gangster's

proximity of the lake, the small cell where he kept some of his enemies
captive, and the cement mixer which has obviously been used. Hmm. 2009
UPDATE: The Hideout has
not been open all season and it doesn't look like it will be again for
some time. It is currently inaccessible and marked with "No

Wood Tick Races
at The Oxbo Resort
|
|
|
|
|
"It
all started 24 years ago, in the bar at the Oxbo Resort, when a
gentlemen named Dick Kuhnert wondered what to do with the many wood
ticks emerging from their sleepy winter hibernation. Plucking a tick off
of his arm, Dick placed it on the bar and watched as it sped around.
Thus, the idea of the Wood Tick Race was born. Although the first year
only drew a handful of racers, this event has grown annually and now
hundreds of contestants vie for the title of Wood Tick Racing Champion."

In 1910, a
dispute over property rights escalated to a standoff with a Sheriff's
posse. John Dietz claimed that the Cameron Dam was on his property
and thus was owed a toll for the logs sent down the Thornapple
River. He defended the dam and resisted arrest until his home was
surrounded by the Sheriff and his men. One deputy was killed in a
gun battle before Dietz surrendered. Dietz's stand against authority
made him a folk hero to many. |

What proved to be
the most unfortunate vote in season 12 of Survivor (Survivor:
Panama - Exile Island) was against Tina Scheer, whose demeanor
had been misunderstood by her fellow Casaya tribemates.
They were unaware that she had lost her 16-year-old son, Charlie, not long before appearing on
the show. Tina was originally chosen to be on Survivor:
Guatemala, but she cancelled after her son's death in a
car accident, a fact that she did not bring up to the other
contestants in Panama. A plan was hatched to vote off Tina
when her manner was misread as being nonsocial. It's too bad
that we did not get to see how far Tina would have made it in the
game if the circumstances had been different. |
