*Never Too
Late*
by Sumner
Arthur Long
Directed by Jo Norton
March 6-7 1971
NEVER TOO LATE is about a man in his fifties who suddenly learns he's
becoming a father again. His last child, a girl, was born 24 years ago,
and considering the jerk she married, he finds the prospect of another
unthinkable. His daughter and son-in-law live with him, and his previously
meek little wife begins to lay down the law. There's to be a nursery,
a new bath, and she discovers that she can use and have his checking account!
Harry, the new-to-be father again, does not have a shot in hell in
this play. Everyone is after him, for one thing or another. He owns a
lumber business with his nitwit son-in-law Charlie and the two are generally
at each others throats. To top the comedy off, when the two
of them get drunk in reconciliation --- their wives call them
on the phone because they are angry with them --- just to tell them to
GO TO HELL!
