sentiment -- all are intricately woven into this subtle and imaginative
story of four people: Amanda, the charming and refined Southern aristocrat,
up-rooted from a past she still lives and believes in; Laura, the delicate
and vulnerable daughter whose dreams are a futile defense against the
harsh realities of life; Tom, the son, seemingly trapped by an environment
and circumstances he can't alter or control; and The Gentleman Caller,
the embodiment of elusive hope for the family's future.
