LumberJills

Many people think that running for LumberJill is a beauty contest. The girls have to do various community service and fund raiser projects. For each event in which the contestants participate they receive points. Each girl has to fulfill the requirements set by the LumberJill Director and by the Board of Directors. The requirements that each girl must satisfy are as follows:
Each girl must have a sponsor
You must between the ages of 13-17. You must be 13 before the start of the Festival and cannot turn 18 before the start of the Festival.
You must attend school in the Deposit Central School District or in a school to which you are sent by the Deposit Central School District
You must complete 6 elder hours. Contestants must spend 6 hours with any elderly person who is a non-family member. You may help them with whatever assistance they may need.
You must complete 6 sponsor hours. Each girl must have a sponsor and help them do work at their business or with their organization.
You must attend 1 board meeting and introduce yourself to the board.
Each contestant must organize and hold a fundraiser. This is MANDATORY!
Each girl must participate in 4 group fundraisers all of which are MANDATORY!
Each contestant must write an essay of 500 words. Topics are given by the Director. Essays are usually about community service or the elder hours you have completed.
Each contestant needs to attend 3 community service events.
These requirements may seem like a lot to do. But, if you work a little bit every weekend they go very fast. For each requirement there are different point amounts. The more you do for an event the more points you receive.
