FreeBSD on PowerPC

I did some experimenting with FreeBSD on a couple old iBook G4's. The results were pretty encouraging. Most of the hardware is reasonably well supported, and with a little digging for documentation, was not too difficult to configure. There is still a lot of work to be done, particularly with some key ports that don't build. ( Newer versions of gcc, OpenOffice, Java, ...)

The desktop-installer-0.3 port (in jb_ports) now supports FreeBSD-powerpc.

My admin log has all the details about my experience installing FreeBSD 8.1 on two iBooks.
