Some doodlings on the technical
details on this homepage:
- On this page I use fonts that are somewhat larger or more bold than is 'normal'
for many WebPages. It makes for easier reading on smaller and older monitors (hey,
we're not all Bill Gates) and helps for those of use whose eyes are not what they used to
be.
- Except for the internal navigation links at the bottom of the page, all the
other links to other pages or sites open in a new window. Therefore you won't need
to use your Back button.
- I try to keep the background of the screen very light as it makes for easier
reading. From time immemorial writing has been done with dark inks on light colored
tablets, parchment and paper. And the various fonts and typefaces have been developed with
that in mind. And one should ask why that is so. I presented a paper to a computer
users group about 15 years ago on this same subject and the human eye has not changed or
evolved significantly in the interim. Some faculty in the Computer Sciences
Department at Stanford University discussed these things in even more detail in various
publications in the 1980's. Trust all of us on these things; dark letters on light
backgrounds are usually much easier to read than say red or blue letters on a black
background. Pictures may look good on a black background; text, No.
- After telling you I was not going to use "Frames" I had a change of
mind. While some old versions of browsers do not support them most in use today can
display them. So for the sake of making navigation easier I added them along with
some other minor modifications including Tables to make some of the items display better
on the various version of browsers out there.
- Anyone is free to quote whatever I put on this page. Of course other pages
that are linked to this one of mine, written by others and which may contain copyrighted
material, belong to their respective owners and writers. But my philosophy is that a
man is responsible for what comes out of his mouth or from his pen. If you are
afraid what you say will come back and bite your butt you then you'd best keep your mouth
shut and your hands in your pockets in the first place.
And a final dedication in memory of one of the men in my
"A" team at Minh Thanh, Vietnam, Charles "Snake" Hosking
He gave meaning to the passage,"Greater love hath no
man..." John 15:13
