Thunderstorms through most of last night and on into the day. By noon it was pouring rain, hard fat drops that pounded the ground outside. About 10 minutes later my trailer started leaking and I could hear the water dripping in various locations. I have most of the leaks identified and keep from putting things where they might get wet but there always seems to be a new leak that crops up whenever it rains..
At around 1 PM the power went out, it surged at first and my laptop began to reboot. Before it could happen again I shut down my computers and unplugged them. Just as I did so there was a huge BOOOMMMM! and the power went out all together. The cooler stopped.. almost immediately it began to get muggy inside. I went out for some fresh air and noticed the rain had stopped. The air was perfectly still.. 94 degrees and humid but there was something else about it I can't really describe. You could almost feel the static electricity in the air. There was an odd silence.. Thor noticed it also.. His ears were back, nose tipped up and he was air scenting, nostrils flaring.. then he whimpered and began pacing.
That's when the lightning began.. almost right over our heads there was a brilliant flash that ripped through the sky.. about 10 seconds later there was one of the loudest thunder claps I've ever heard. It rumbled the ground and Thor shot into the trailer like a scared rabbit. I looked up at the sky as another series of intense flashes crackled behind the clouds. I decided Thor's idea wasn't that bad and I went back inside as the thunder claps began to vibrate the trailer.
This went on for about an hour and the rain began to pour out of the sky again. The humidity and heat were almost unbearable in the trailer. I fell asleep. When I woke up it was 3 PM and the power was still down. I decided to work on clearing out some of the shit I've got stored in here and organize things a bit. I've been meaning to do this for some time and just never seem to get motivated. I was motivated today. At 5 PM the power came back on and I gratefully turned on the cooler to MAX.. slowly the trailer began to cool off.
My God, I have a lot of shit. I don't have enough space to organize it the way I want. It's slow going but eventually I'll have things fixed up and in order here. For now it's still not a home, just a shitty box that leaks.Labels: Weather |

I'm sitting here in my shitty trailer listening to the wind howling outside once again. I am SO SICK & TIRED of this fucking wind. I don't care what it's role in nature is, if I could permanently eliminate it from the ecology I would do it in an instant. Wind is evil.
It serves only to cause pollens and allergens to saturate the air, create dust and dirt along with debris to cover the landscape and in larger doses it causes devastating effects. Not only that, it makes me extremely irritable. This trailer is far from weatherized and therefore the wind causes dust to come in here and settle over everything. I not only had to go buy sealed cases to store my electronic equipment and cameras I have to clean more than once a day to keep it under control.
Right now the wind is at a steady 17 - 20 mph with gusts hitting 25 mph about every 30 - 60 seconds. This is causing all manner of debris to constantly fly through the air in the yards and every few seconds something hits the side of this trailer. Not strong enough to actually do any damage but more than sufficient to wreak havoc and fray at my last nerves.
It really pisses me off. I'm in a shitty mood. I hate the fucking wind.
I'll take the heat anytime over this crap. Thor won't even go outside. Not only does it make it impossible to get anything done today, I have to ride my bike to work later and I gaurantee the fucking wind will be in my face the entire time making it almost impossible to build up any real speed.
We have winds like this every year but normally they don't last long. This year it seems like it's been non-stop.
This is fucked.Labels: Weather |

| I Woke Up Twice This Morning.. |
|
|
It's been a busy day, rain and work, what more could I ask for? I woke up to my alarm at 5:30 AM and had planned on riding my bike in at 6:00 AM to put me at HD around 6:30 AM - 6:45 AM but the next thing I know it's 7:00 AM and I'm waking up for the second time.. not only am I late but it's now pouring rain outside..
The weather report said showers expected around 8 AM, guess they were wrong. I threw on my clothes and asked the landlady if she could help me out with a ride. She made no effort to conceal her irritation as she drove me into town. I punched in at 7:27 AM and will accrue 1 or 2 points against my attendance for this. My first order of business was to change my availability so that I am no longer scheduled before 9 AM from here on. This way if I need a ride due to rain I might be able to get some help without having to wake someone up at 5 AM.. I try to ride my bike unless it is raining and once the season is over I can change my availability back again.
Home Depot was busy ALL day today. I was working in the electrical department and spent most of the shift stocking shelves between helping customers. It was non-stop though and I'm worn out tonight. Our district manager came by for a walk through of the store today as well. I always laugh at the way the managers pop to attention and do things they NEVER do otherwise. Things like facing the merchandise as they walk past an aisle.. Even better is the sappy sweet disposition they all seem to have while the district manager is in the store. They're ever so accomodating for the duration.. then after he leaves they all dissappear again. Reminds me of what an ass I must have looked like when I was a manager at the phone company.. I recall doing the same sort of thing.
I got off at 4:30 PM after staying an extra half hour to make up the time I missed this morning and then caught a ride home from a lady who lives not too far from me. I have a headache and it's cold here. I'm cranking up the heater and going to bed early tonight.
Tomorrow I have my DUI class at noon and then from there will go to work until 10 PM. I guess I'll drag out the rain gear and just pedal my way there and back rather than bug people for rides.Labels: Home Depot, Weather |

I've been so busy the past week. I haven't posted much of anything to the blog. Home Depot switched me over to the electrical department and I've had an increase in hours due to the departments needs so I'm not complaining. Dad started kimo again and so far is doing alright.
The weather has been shitty for the most part, lots of rain, some wind and a real biting coldness has set in. It snowed in Redding yesterday and then last night Thor went flying out the door and slid off the side of the deck. It was iced over and there was snow on the ground. Not much though, it was mostly turning to slush.
This morning as I type this the wind is howling once again outside and tearing things up. I hear debris banging into stuff including my trailer and am afraid to go see how bad it is after enduring the last storm.
The bulk of my spare time this last week has been spent in the Trailer Life Studios where I have been recording my latest podcast as well as working on the Confessions project and introducing a new segment which I am calling Fragments. This new segment is both a creative work and at the same time compliments Confessions by filling in the gaps so to speak. In Confessions I move through my personal history at a fairly quick pace and Fragments will go back and flesh out the more meaningful portions by exploring a scenario from my past in each episode. I will relate the events as they unfolded for me in a short story. These stories will usually be something with personal meaning and I will break in from time to time and discuss certain points to clarify or help give the listeners more understanding of where my head was or my emotional state at the given time.
I am doing Fragments as a podcast but drawing strongly upon the audio book format to deliver these episodes. Music and sound effects will be standard but I am also learning how to better effectively deliver the story as well. Creating a sense of drama while relating a true story is not always that simple and I am working hard to keep the facts straight while still making it dramatic for the listeners. Fragments is meant to be a complete story contained in each episode. This is difficult to do while trying to tell a story in detail. I will do my best to follow this rule of thumb.
All in all it's a very time consuming process but well worth the results. Look for the first episode of Fragments titled 'Gypsy' sometime before Sunday. In the meantime here is a short preview:

There were rumblings earlier today that we would be getting hit again tonight with severe weather. As the radar map above shows I think it's mostly just rain, some wind but not like the other day. Apparently the winds reached 70 mph in certain areas and there are still many folks without power. We sold out of generators, most flashlights and batteries at Home Depot on Friday. With the generators I can sort of see a mad rush on those. But flashlights? Batteries? People waited until the power was out to go buy these things? Amazing..
I spoke with my father and where he lives near Weaverville, CA they had quite a bit of snowfall and more expected tonight. He sounds 100% better than he did when he was in the physical therapy center a couple of weeks ago. He's not cured but to hear the change makes it seem like he is. I may have to get him on the phone and do a recording for one of my upcoming podcasts.
My Mom and stepfather have been at their Donner Lake house lately. I heard a report the other night that the Donner Pass would be subject to winds nearing 145 mph... I called them to see what the deal was. They told me it's wet and slushy with mostly rains and light snowfall expected. They're 1200 feet below the pass itself so the wind wasn't a huge threat if indeed it got that bad. My daughter reported high winds in the San Jose, CA area that were causing havoc with everyone there. So it looks like this storm was fairly widespread and created problems everywhere it touched.
Elsewhere, a truck driver aquaintance and fellow podcaster posted a twitter update earlier regarding the weather he's facing tonight on the road as I type this post.
Here's wishing you a safe arrival Curtis.
Well, I'm off to bed. Two days off and then back to work. Got lot's to do before Thursday.Labels: Weather, Winter |
