| Reposting My Gear Jammer Podcasts |
|
|
After my last Trailer Life Podcast I received a couple of requests for my old Gear Jammer Podcasts to be released again. I will be working to restore the audio on several of these and upload them. I am not altering or editing the content however. These are the original podcasts as they were presented.
Episodes 1 - 3 are up and available, more to come...Labels: Podcasts, The Gear Jammer |

The top 2 images are of the Motel 6 where TL37 was recorded. The 3rd image is of CrackHead Kim....she refused to have her picture taken...
Yes that's Thor in the background of the 3rd image... I guess he's a crack dog now since he was there.... shit...Labels: Podcasts, The Gear Jammer |

| Fragments: Episode One [Gypsy] |
|
|
I have received a lot of feedback on Fragments: Episode One (Gypsy). I am pleased with the positive response. This was a repost as I originally put that out back in February, 2008.
This was one of my first attempts at telling a story so I was not sure it would go over too well. I would like to thank all of you that responded to this story and told me you were on the edge of your seat waiting to hear what happened next.. Awesome! That makes it all worth it.
Like I said in the podcast, this was a true story from my past. Of course I dramatized the narrative but the actual events are as they took place. This kind of feedback inspires me to do more, I have already got a partial write-up for Episode 2 but I tend to procrastinate. Fragments will continue though and you may look forward to more in the future.
Thanks again everyone.Labels: Fragments, Podcasts |

| Randomized Radio Netcast - Back To Our Roots |
|
|
I recently had the pleasure of downloading & listening to the latest Randomized Radio Netcast.
RRN is a fresh new podcast that takes us back to our roots. The show features a selection of classic rock & oldies to mix things up. Good sound quality combined with a delivery which is both engaging and comical at times leaving you wanting more.
This podcast is being produced by Randy Noseworthy [TheNose100] who is a driver with a passion for technology leaning towards Linux. In addition to his tech tips Randy has plenty of ideas and opinions on politics & life which he throws at the listener.
Some of his recent ramblings included thoughts on putting together a "Man-Boob" contest as a charity fund raiser which I thought was both hilarious & brilliant!
Overall a great show! I encourage everyone to check out The Randomized Radio Netcast!Labels: Podcasts |

Well, we launched the first episode yesterday. I am having a small problem on this end with the feed. It has posted properly but it's not updating content... I am furiously trying to track down the source.. it seems like it's a feedburner setting, and yet I have modified the settings and still -- the problem persists.
My tinkering may produce a duplicate posting and if you have subscribed via iTunes and see KAST #1 post again, please disregard as it's just the side effect of my troubleshooting. I apologize.
Either way, the podcast has posted and is available. If you haven't been over to Kastaside yet, check it out! Good stuff. I am finalizing some details on the web site and we are working on the next episode.
We are not doing this show on a schedule, just kind of keeping logs of our conversations and when we have something worthy of putting into a kast it sort of builds itself. There is a lot of work to do once we have enough audio content to do an episode and we want to produce a quality show for everyone. So keep checking in on us, things will level out and streamline shortly.
As far as Trailer Life is concerned, it's not going away. I am getting ready to put out TL34 soon. I have had several requests for a new episode and am working on it. My focus has been primarily on getting Kastaside up and running lately however.
Hope everyone is doing well, I'll talk at you all soon!Labels: Kastaside, Podcasts |

| TL32, TL33 = Record Decline... |
|
|

Wow! I am shocked and confused.
Either Feedburner is full of shit or my hard times are suddenly of no interest to anyone. Don't get me wrong, I have been podcasting about my hard luck since the beginning and as you can see in the graph above it has proved to draw a subscriber base. But as you can also see, the last two episodes have brought my subscriber base back down to the equivelant of when I first began this show and HAD NO subscribers!
What's up with that? (nod to Mike Dell) Is it possible that my termination and subsequent unemployment has turned away most of my listeners? OR.. does it have something to do with the format change? I brought in a co-host for the last episode and suddenly a decline in popularity... I don't know what to think here..
This concerns me, not because I care so much about Trailer Life ratings as it disturbs me that I have been pouring hours into the development and production of a new show which will launch in the very near future. That show is titled KASTASIDE and is a co-hosted effort between myself and Annie who shared my TL33 episode. I am having second thoughts now.
Trailer Life is my show and I do it because I get something out of doing it. KASTASIDE is a joint effort and my perspective is not the only one at hand here. It seems to me that if Feedburner is correct, then the co-hosted format did not do so well -- or perhaps my current state of affairs is, to be blunt, BORING...
I really need to know from my listeners what the deal is here. Like I said, hours and hours have been poured into this new venture. If the co-host format is the demon seed here then I need to know now, before we continue to pour ourselves into it. Or, if my personal situation is just not that interesting, so be it. But I need to know what my listeners think at this point.
I HAVE NEVER ASKED for any feedback before other than providing my email address for voluntary feedback. At this time I am ASKING my listeners to please give me their opinions.
We are several weeks to a month away from launching this new show. I have been working on a web site that includes an audio preview. This site is currently on my personal server and will be published to the domain once complete, just prior to launching the show.
I am at odds with putting anything out there before completeing the site, but I am providing this link: KASTASIDE [DRAFT] and would like to ask you, my regular listeners, to please take a look, and listen, then send me a short email telling me what you think.
I have thick skin, so please be genuine. I think maybe Feedburner is not so accurate, but on the other hand I would rather know now than keep putting effort into something that may not be of much interest to people. This new show is on a completely differnet level than TLP.
Once again, I appreciate any comments or opinions you may have with this limited information at your disposal.
Thanks everyone, Dave

| Guerrilla Casting: 2010 *Update* |
|
|

Well, we are making progress on the GC: 2010 podcast and I have around 25 pages of script written. No recordings have been made yet, once the script is finalized we will start draft recordings and go from there.
This is a huge project (for me) as I have never taken on anything involving scripting and/or requiring other people to get involved before. I have a good team so far and will end up needing more people to sign on as this thing fleshes out.
There isn't an "Official" release date yet, I want to do this right so I thought instead of just saying "Coming Soon" over and over I would post updates instead.
Things are rolling, I'm flowing so far with the scripting and getting a lot of feedback from the others.
This is gonna be badass!Labels: GC: 2010, Podcasts |

Hot one today.. this morning was busy, I was up and about by 7 AM and fired up the BBQ to cook a buncha hamburger patties before they went bad. By 9 AM I was putting boards up on the fence to finish a section I hadn't done before the rains hit. I finished that and was grabbin' a beer when Thor came and told me someone was here.
Sure nuf someone was here to drop off a cute 7 month old female dobe. Her name is Mariah. We did the intake process with them and I put Mariah in one of the runs out back.
After that I've been catching up on tweets and emails, getting ready to work on the script for TL31. I have been looking around for a few people to cast into certain roles in this episode and Annie, my friend from work, is interested in helping. I set her up on Box.net so she can access the files and am working on getting her set up on twitter as well. I still will need several more people to fill slots on this and am keeping an eye out for possibilities.Labels: Podcasts, Trailer Life |

| I Met Trucker Steve Yesterday |
|
|

Steve called and told me he & Michelle would be passing through on the way to Phoenix, AZ and asked if I had time to meet. I spent my lunch hour with them and he recorded our meeting. Michelle put us on Stickam during a portion of our conversation as well.
It was great to finally meet Steve & we plan to do it again. I will talk about our meet in more detail on my next podcast...Labels: Podcasts, Trucking |

I posted Podcast 19 the other day and it still doesn't appear in my iTunes Store. It did update in my iTunes podcatcher however so I'm hoping it did the same for anyone who subscribes.
In the event that it hasn't shown up you can get a direct download from The Vault.Labels: Podcasts |

| Dad's Back In The Hospital.. |
|
|
My father is back in the hospital. I had a voicemail from my step mother when I got home from work. She said he had been taken to the ER and was admitted, I don't have any other details yet. She sounded like she has whatever I'm just getting over, a head/chest cold perhaps and she didn't want me calling too late.
Well that's good in one way as it indicates he is stable, she also said she would not be going to see him tomorrow. I will call her in the morning to find out what's going on..
I've been getting positive response to my latest podcast (TL17), it appears the show was well received and I appreciate the feedback.
If anyone wishes to pass along the link or copy the show in full or in part for someone to listen to I have no problem with that. I don't care about personal recognition as much as I care about spreading this information to as many people as possible who are willing to listen.Labels: Cancer, Podcasts |

| I'm Sick.. I Don't Get Sick |
|
|
For the past few days something has been trying to infect me. I could feel it on the fringe of my system but just ignored it as I always do. I just don't get sick. Well this morning I woke up and my body had been assimilated.. Head was throbbing, joints were aching, chest was full of fluid..
Well I ended up giving in to this shit and had to call my DUI class and tell them I wouldn't be there today. That's gonna cost me another $30 but I don't care with the way I feel. I called in sick to Home Depot as well, at least I can use my sick time there and still get paid.
I know this is a short post but I have to get some sleep and beat this thing. I added podcast 17 to the feed, check it out but a word of caution before you do.. This episode contains some very disturbing subject matter so heads up folks.Labels: Health, Podcasts |

I posted another podcast last night and if you haven't been keeping up with them lately I highly reccomend listening to the latest one (TL13) in which RFID Technology is discussed. RFID is a tracking technology that paints a nightmarish future for mankind in which every object on the planet would be chipped and traceable..
The plan includes far more than merchandise, pets and cattle.. every tree, product and person would be tagged with a unique tracking number. Beyond that, a persons personal information would be contained in these chips as well. Readers or scanners would be installed in every possible location including restrooms, elevators, libraries...
I couldn't think this stuff up if I tried! It's like something right out of Blade Runner and it scares the shit out of you to contemplate the ramifications of this.Labels: Podcasts, Technology |

I miss Bree.
I haven't posted to the blog in the last week because I've been spending most of my time working on podcasts. Home Depot now has me working in different departments as a fill in for people who are sick or absent. It's good for me because my hours are picking up but it's an insane way to run a business.
If someone quits or is fired, they don't usually replace that person. Instead they just make everyone else pick up the slack. That way the managers get bigger bonuses for keeping the labor cost down. They don't pay me enough to be running ragged constantly like this. Not only that, they just installed these boxes in each department, you may have seen them. They have a button you can push for assistance.
Seems innocent enough right? Wrong.. Here's what really happens when you push that button.. An announcement comes over the PA system as well as the radios we wear on our aprons. It says, "Customer needs assistance at the paint counter (or whatever area it's located)".. Then in about 20 seconds it repeats but also says, "Second request...".. Then in another 20 seconds it repeats again but now adds, "Extended wait time..."
Well that's all fine and good.. makes the customer feel important and all.. but behind the scenes each time that button is pressed it's recorded, as well as how long it took for an associate to respond and shut it off. The corporate think tank has determined that 60 seconds is enough time to respond. If it goes into extended wait time that goes against the stores numbers. It's ALL about the numbers.
This is exactly how SBC used to monitor things when I was a manager at the phone company. So now the store manager is responsible for making sure his numbers are in the acceptable range or he gets reprimanded. In theory it sounds reasonable...
So why in the fuck is there only 1 associate for every 3 departments at any given time? Because if the management can intimidate the associates into running themselves ragged to cover 3 departments as well as cover 3 phones and at the same time constantly assist customers while stocking shelves then the labor cost is down and the management looks good when the numbers are reviewed.
This is exactly why I despise corporate management. I was forced to do and say things as a manager at the phone company that made people, who used to be my friends, despise me as well. Fuck that shit. Never again.
It would be another story if Home Depot paid us a wage appropriate to the expectation they have of us. Minimum wage just doesn't instill that kind of loyalty or morale. Sorry, but I give them what they pay me and that's it. If they want the extra loyalty and effort then they need to compensate for it. The bottom line is that they don't and won't compensate us for it, yet they try to force us to do this crazy juggling act and run us ragged so that when the numbers are tallied the store looks good and the management gets praise and bonuses for our efforts. Fuck that.
The sad thing is that there isn't anything else in this area to compete with them. Also with my current situation not having a CDL I have no other options.
Anyway......
If you haven't checked lately there are several new podcasts out and I'm working on the next one.Labels: Home Depot, Podcasts |

I've been so busy the past week. I haven't posted much of anything to the blog. Home Depot switched me over to the electrical department and I've had an increase in hours due to the departments needs so I'm not complaining. Dad started kimo again and so far is doing alright.
The weather has been shitty for the most part, lots of rain, some wind and a real biting coldness has set in. It snowed in Redding yesterday and then last night Thor went flying out the door and slid off the side of the deck. It was iced over and there was snow on the ground. Not much though, it was mostly turning to slush.
This morning as I type this the wind is howling once again outside and tearing things up. I hear debris banging into stuff including my trailer and am afraid to go see how bad it is after enduring the last storm.
The bulk of my spare time this last week has been spent in the Trailer Life Studios where I have been recording my latest podcast as well as working on the Confessions project and introducing a new segment which I am calling Fragments. This new segment is both a creative work and at the same time compliments Confessions by filling in the gaps so to speak. In Confessions I move through my personal history at a fairly quick pace and Fragments will go back and flesh out the more meaningful portions by exploring a scenario from my past in each episode. I will relate the events as they unfolded for me in a short story. These stories will usually be something with personal meaning and I will break in from time to time and discuss certain points to clarify or help give the listeners more understanding of where my head was or my emotional state at the given time.
I am doing Fragments as a podcast but drawing strongly upon the audio book format to deliver these episodes. Music and sound effects will be standard but I am also learning how to better effectively deliver the story as well. Creating a sense of drama while relating a true story is not always that simple and I am working hard to keep the facts straight while still making it dramatic for the listeners. Fragments is meant to be a complete story contained in each episode. This is difficult to do while trying to tell a story in detail. I will do my best to follow this rule of thumb.
All in all it's a very time consuming process but well worth the results. Look for the first episode of Fragments titled 'Gypsy' sometime before Sunday. In the meantime here is a short preview:

Well Podcast 5 is up and I was thinking I need to have a place to keep them as they start to accumulate. Even though the podcast page reflects them and so does iTunes, there needs to be a quick way to access any of my shows without a lot of clicking and scrolling. iTunes will only reflect what is posted on the feed. The feed will only reflect what is posted from Blogger. Blogger will allow up to 999 items to display. Yeah, that's a lot but I don't think I want the page to scroll that far down. Anyway I'm only on podcast 5 right now but I'm trying to think ahead here..
So I created a vault to store all podcasts I produce. It's linked from box.net directly so anytime I add a new show it will automatically update in the vault. Cool. I still need to add a link to the vault on my site, but here is a working link in the meantime:
The Vault
The embeded object is coded in flash similar to the way YouTube videos are done. You can directly download a podcast by right-clicking on any title or just stream it and listen online.
The page design for the vault is nothing similar to the rest of the website. Yes, I know. I just whipped it out so I could have a place to store these files. It looks cool though I think.
Anyway, check it out..Labels: Podcasts |
