My husband is Robert Hannaford son of Henry Wesley Hannaford and Sally Dot Ligon Hannaford who lived in Pittsboro, Mississippi. I have done some research on Robert's grandparents' families, William Henry and Mattie Frances Morgan Hannaford. However, I concentrated more on documenting Henry Wesley and Sally Dot Ligon Hannaford's descendants.
Landrum and Mary John Murphree Tyler have done a lot of Hannaford/Morgan research. Mary John Murphree Tyler and my husband, Robert Hannaford, are first cousins. Mary John's parents were John and Eunice Hannaford Murphree.
Robert's second cousin, Cecil Hannaford, is to be credited with doing the majority of our Hannaford research. Cecil Hannaford descends from James Thomas "Jim" Hannaford (1875-1950) a brother to Robert Hannaford's grand dad, William Henry Hannaford (1870-1852). Cecil is in the process of writing a Hannaford book therefore information that I am sharing will be broad and general.
Cecil Hannaford stated: "John Hannaford, b. ca. 1705, our ancestor from Accamack County, Virginia came from Devonshire, England to America in March 1729 aboard Merchant Ship Patapsco. The records indicate our Hannafords came from England. To my knowledge (Cecil's), John is the earliest Hannaford to get to American shores, having landed in Baltimore, and settled in Accamack County."

Cecil has a newspaper clipping from an unknown source on names which he quoted, "Han(s)ford - - This is an English place name acquired from once having lived at one of the following places in England: The Handforth in Cheshire was spelled Haneford in 1158 and Honeford in 1220. There are three places in Devonshire which were spelled Haneford in 1220, Hunaford in 1231, Hannworth in 1332, and now Hanford. The meaning of each is either "Hanna's ford" or "Wild bird ford". The Old English word hanna meant "wild bird", and was also a man's nickname. There is a Hanford in Staffordshire with the same meaning. The Hanford in Dorsetshire, spelled Hanford in 1068 Doomesday Book and Hamford in 1194 and 1228, is from Old English han-ford--rocky ford."
