AYSO Section Eight

Spring is here
Spring is approaching
fast. The regions are wished a
successful spring soccer season.
Please ensure all your
volunteers are properly registered.
Please ensure all your players are registered and that their
registration fees have been paid to the NSTC.
Remember to always thank
your volunteers for the roles that they perform in your region. A Thank you goes a long ways!
The National Annual
General Meeting is just around the corner.
Staff Changes
Tony Buckett has joined the tournament commission. Tony will be a fine addition to the
commission. We will miss him on the
section staff. Mike Wint has stepped up
to the plate and will take Tony’s vacated section position. Thank you both Mike and Tony for all you do.
Please welcome Alyson Edwards as the section developer. AYSO needs to grow to continue to prosper and
be successful. It is hoped that by
having a local developer in the section that we can begin the process of growing
some new regions in our section.
Add Zest to your
Meeting
Some ideas to
incorporate in your regional board meetings to help make the meeting
interesting and informative:
Start the meeting
promptly on time.
Give all new guests and
visitors special attention.
Hospitality.
Greet all with a friendly smile and welcome them to the meeting.
Streamline business and
keep it at a minimum.
Take care of the needs
of the visitors and guests. Once
completed invite them to stay
if they are interested.
Have an agenda or plan
for the meeting and accomplish the agenda with professionalism and timeliness.
Provide time for, and
promote, board member interaction and socializing.
For some they haven’t
spoken to one another for a period of time, war stories can abound. Recognize this and stay positive,
but keep the meeting
moving forward.
Provide incentives to
promote attendance, to improve attendance, and increase the number of
volunteers as well as production from each.
Everyone loves
incentives. Incentives can be given in
various forms, from simple recognition for a “job well done” in front of all,
to certificates of appreciation. An
annual volunteer recognition dinner is also a great reward.
If
the meeting is going to be a long one, maybe a light snack or finger foods. Healthy snacks suck as fruits and vegetables
are now making an
impact on meetings.
A gift type drawing at
the board meetings are also an incentive.
Most times simple and useful items are appreciated.
Devote time for each
meeting for reports from the board members.
Dedicate meeting time
for each board member to provide updates and items needing attention to be
brought forth.
Devote time at each
meeting continued.
Surprises are never a
good idea. If a board member is aware of
a particular topic before the meeting it is a good suggestion to make the
appropriate members aware of it before the board meeting.
Recognize and give credit
to all volunteers and businesses that provide special services or donations.
Recognition in front of
the region should be done often and in a big way.
Have an excellent Agenda
scheduled each month.
Make the meetings
informative, exciting and find different ways to promote the sport of soccer
and AYSO. Promote AYSO’s sponsors. Your local sponsors can be invited to your
meetings to promote their businesses.
Maybe the region needs the services of a lawn care company, or is
looking at fund raising ideas or has other areas that a local business can
assist with.
Maintain tight control
of the meeting and its time schedule.
A well planned and
effective meeting keeps your board members happy and their spouses too!
