"My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in
you"
Galatians 4:19
[My daughter] is named in remembrance of Susanna Annesley Wesley, the mother of John Wesley. Susanna Wesley homeschooled her many children and was a model mother in many ways. Susanna wrote:
"There is nothing I now desire to live for, but to do some small service to my children, that, as I have brought 'em into the world, so that it might please God to make me (though unworthy) an instrument of doing good to their souls."
In 1711, Susanna wrote a "Religious Conference" to her daughter Emilia, aged 19.
This document was intended to teach her beloved daughter "the principles of
revealed religion" and the "being and attributes of God." The cover page of this
document highlighted Galatians 4:19, which expressed her desire and purpose as a
mother.
Our intention as parents is to make a life pattern of teaching
[my daughter] "the
principles of revealed religion." Our hope is that God will make us "an
instrument of doing good to [her] soul." Our prayer is that our church community
would help us and require us to "labor ... until Christ is formed in [her]."
May it please God to hear our prayer this day.
